A New Board for UDeCOTT

27th January, 2011 by Melanie Archer | 19 comments

On Tuesday, the new board of directors of UDeCOTT was announced [check out the Express article here]. HDC's managing director, Jearlean John has been named as chairman of the board, while acla's own Brian Lewis has been named as one of eight directors.

Asked to comment Brian replied, "I look forward to receiving my official appointment and to meeting the other members of the board." At acla:works we're optimistic about the changes that will occur under this new board, and we'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate Brian on his appointment.

Congratulations to the new board especially to Brian Lewis.  We anticipate that with an experienced and practicing architect on the team that decisions made within UDeCOTT will be arrived at with a greater focus on what is best for the development and well being of the society.

Thanks for the support and well wishes. I too have expectations that we can make a difference and I am quite clear that until Architects take up the challenge of leadership by participating in national development, our profession and industry will remain a political football doomed by whatever new scheme someone dreams up for us.

Congratulations, Brian.  I agree with your view about Architects taking up the challenge.

Congrats Brian! Let’s hope your presence will educate the new board how dangerous Calder Hart’s ‘design-build’ poison was to TT’s local architectural talent (and our economy).

Good boards need experienced people who are independent thinkers and persons of proven integrity.
The appointment of Brian Lewis to the UDeCOTT board is a good sign that the T&T Government is interested in the appropriate governance and high performance of entities it controls.

Both Minister and Government should be happy about this perception

    Congratulations Brian.

We are certain, if, the P P Govt. continues selecting, men of integrity and experience, like your good self, to serve on our Boards, these sectors will improve, but, more importantly, our country will have, a fair chance at success to the benefit of us all and future generations.
Do not despair for it’s never too late.

Brian, congratulations on your appointment. I can imagine that it will not be a simple task but hopefully, if you can even put half of the wrongs right, you would be making a significant contribution in setting the ship in the right direction. Good Luck!

    Dear Brian

Congratulations on your appointment.  Your integrity and worth are well known and appreciated - not to mention your belief in accountability and absolute honesty - even when the sentiment that needs to be expressed is not a popular one.  I think this is excellent news and wish you the best in what will be a very challenging role.

Thanks for the supportive comments Teresa - I’ll give it a whirl!

Jeffrey, yes it will not be simple but I will do what I can.
