East Port of Spain Study
Subsequent to an urban planning seminar hosted by acla:works in 2004, an urban renewal study was commissioned for a devolved area of the city known as East Port of Spain. The rationale for the study was to enhance the connection between Port of Spain proper and its eastern boundary, in effect uplifting the major gateway into the city. The study proposed, initially, four main areas for urban infill, an eastern extension to the promenade/ Independence Square and the incorporation of the East Dry River into the urban fabric. In addition, urban pattern guidelines were developed on the relationship between building heights, street widths and hardscaping.
