Frederick Street Mall
A very long and narrow plot posed a design challenge. The solution was to create a short mall leading to an open-air courtyard around which specialty shops are arranged. The courtyard was sensitively designed to provide an attractive entrance using skylights, bay windows and checkerboard black and white floor tiles. A fountain, visible from the street, was placed at the centre of the courtyard at the end of the mall. The narrow exterior appropriately references Spanish and Italian courtyard solutions.
