Private Residence Carenage
The form of this house is derived from a curve generated by the main retaining wall generated by the site’s steep slope. The upper-level arrival to the house is connected to the living spaces below through an open intermediary space. Natural materials such as local sandstone, quartzite, teak and pigmented concrete provide a warm feel, a vanishing edge swimming pool dramatizes the seaside vistas, while a water feature adds sensory experience. Natural ventilation in the living spaces saves energy, rainwater retention waters the garden in the dry season, and an internal garden opens up to the sky.
